FUEL PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT


1.Release the fuel pressure in the fuel line. (Refer to GROUP 13A - On-vehicle Service, Reduce Fuel Pressure in Pressurized Fuel Lines ).




2.Follow the steps below to unlock the fuel main pipe connector.
(1) Compress the retainer tabs of the fuel main pipe connector to unlock it.
(2) Pull out the connector with the retainer still attached to the pipe of the fuel pump and gauge assembly.
note Remove the retainer from the pipe and then assemble the retainer into the connector.

3.Disconnect the fuel vapour hose.

4.Using special tool fuel tank cap wrench (MB992202), remove the lock nut of fuel pump and gauge assembly.

caution Pay attention not to damage the fuel gauge unit and float of the fuel pump and gauge assembly when removing the fuel pump and gauge assembly from the fuel tank.
Remove the fuel pump and gauge assembly from service hole.
note When disassembling and reassembling the fuel pump and gauge assembly, refer to .
6.Replace the fuel pump packing with new one.

caution
  • Pay attention not to damage the fuel gauge unit and the float of the fuel pump and gauge assembly when installing it to the fuel tank.
  • When installing the fuel pump and gauge assembly to the fuel tank, check that the fuel gauge unit moving area moves smoothly.
Install the fuel pump and gauge assembly to the fuel tank through the service hole.


8.In the same manner as removal, use special tool fuel tank cap wrench (MB992202) to install the lock nut of fuel pump and gauge assembly.
Tighten the lock nut so that its marking is within the shown range.
9.Connect the fuel vapour hose.

caution After the installation, slightly pull the fuel main pipe to check that it is connected securely. At this time, also check that there is approximately 1 mm play.
Follow the steps below to lock the fuel main pipe connector.
(1) Make sure that the fuel pump and gauge assembly and the fuel main pipe connector remains straight.
(2) Insert the connector into the fuel pump and gauge assembly until it clicks into place.
11.Connect the fuel pump and gauge assembly connector.
12.Check the fuel leak of fuel tank (Refer to ).
13.Install the inspection lid.
14.Install the rear seat cushion assembly (Refer to GROUP 52A - Rear Seat Assembly ).
