INSPECTION PROCEDURE 9: Obstacle is not detected even when the selector lever is shifted to "R" (reverse) position. INSPECTION PROCEDURE 10: The corner sensor indicator (rear) continues flashing.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If obstacle is not detected or the corner sensor indicator (rear) continues flashing even when the selector lever is shifted to "R" (reverse) position, the wiring harness, connectors, inhibitor switch, or corner sensor/back sonar-ECU may be defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of the inhibitor switch
  • Malfunction of corner sensor/back sonar-ECU

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step 1. Inspect OFF indicator and sensor indicator with ignition switch turned to ON position.

Verify that the corner sensor OFF indicator lamp and corner sensor indicator will illuminate for 1 second when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES <Both of them illuminate normally.> : The procedure is complete.
NO <Corner sensor OFF indicator lamp and corner sensor indicator do not illuminate.> : Diagnose the power supply system of the combination meter. Refer to .
NO <Only corner sensor OFF indicator lamp does not illuminate.> : Perform "Corner sensor OFF indicator lamp does not illuminate." Refer to .
NO <All the corner sensor indicators do not illuminate or continue flashing.> : Perform "All the corner sensor indicators do not illuminate." Refer to .
NO <Any of the corner sensor indicators does not illuminate or continues flashing.> : Go to Step 2.

Step 2. Inspect inoperative corner sensor indicator lamp.

Q. Which corner sensor indicator lamp does not illuminate or continues flashing?

The corner sensor indicators (except rear corner sensor indicators) do not illuminate or continue flashing. : Perform "Any of the corner sensor indicators does not illuminate." Refer to .
Only rear corner sensor indicators do not illuminate or continue flashing. : Go to Step 3.

Step 3. Verify that the ETACS-ECU buzzer sounds when the selector lever is shifted to "R" (reverse) position.

  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Shift position: R (reverse)
OK: The ETACS-ECU buzzer sounds.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Diagnose SWS.Refer to GROUP 54D, Troubleshooting or GROUP 54E, Troubleshooting .

Step 4. Connector check: Corner sensor/back sonar-ECU connector C-137 and inhibitor switch connector B-111.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Repair the defective connector.

Step 5. Check the wiring harness between inhibitor switch connector B-111 (terminal 3, 7) and corner sensor/back sonar sensor-ECU connector C-137 (terminal 19, 1).

note Before the wiring harness inspection, inspect the intermediate connectors C-18 and C-43, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Repair the wiring harness.

Step 6. Connector check: Corner sensor/back sonar-ECU connector C-137 and back sonar sensor connector G-30.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the defective connector.

Step 7. Check the wiring harness between back sonar sensor connector G-30 (terminal 1, 2) and corner sensor/back sonar sensor-ECU connector C-137 (terminal 9, 10).

note Before the wiring harness inspection, inspect the intermediate connectors G-31, G-29, C-15, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.

Repair the wiring harness.

Step 8. Connector check: Combination meter connector C-02.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.

Repair the defective connector.

Step 9. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector C-02 (terminal 26) and corner sensor/back sonar sensor-ECU connector C-137 (terminal 14).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.

Repair the wiring harness.

Step 10. Inspection with back sonar sensor removed

Verify that the corner sensor indicator lamp (rear) flashes when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position with the back sonar sensor connector G-30 disconnected.

Q. Inspect if the corner sensor indicator (rear) flashes.

Replace the back sonar sensor.

Go to Step 11.

Step 11. Verification after corner sensor/back sonar-ECU replacement

After replacing the corner sensor/back sonar-ECU, verify that the corner sensor indicator lamp illuminates normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The procedure is complete.
Replace the combination meter.
