caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the R (Reverse) position alarm function does not work normally, the input signal circuits to the components below or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

  • Ignition switch (IG1)
  • Shift lever IND (R illuminated)

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Pulse check.

Check the input signal, which are related to the R (reverse) position warning function.
System switch
Check condition
Ignition switch (IG1)
When turned from ACC to ON
Inhibitor switch (reverse position)
When the ignition switch is turned ON and the selector lever is moved to the R position.

The ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received. : Refer to Inspection Procedure P-2 "The ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received ."
The Inhibitor switch (reverse position) signal is not received. : Refer to diagnosis code No.11 inspection procedure "Engine-A/T-ECU time-out (related to engine) ."

Step 2. Retest the system.

Check that the R (reverse) position alarming function works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
