INSPECTION PROCEDURE I-4: Vehicle speed-dependent unfolding function does not work normally.

caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If this function does not work normally, the input signal circuit(s) below or the ETACS-ECU may be defective. Also, with a customisation function, the door mirrors may be set to a mode in which the vehicle speed-dependent unfolding function is not activated.

  • Ignition switch (IG1)
  • Vehicle speed signal (combination meter)

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  • Defective vehicle speed signal (combination meter)
  • The CAN bus line is defective.
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Customize function by using the SWS monitor

Use the SWS monitor customisation function to confirm that "DOOR MIRROR" is set to "SPEED SEN FUN".

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Use the SWS monitor customisation function to set "DOOR MIRROR" to "SPEED SEN FUN" (Refer to ).

Step 2. ECU check by using the SWS monitor

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the ETACS-ECU and the SWS communication lines are normal.

  • Ignition switch: ON
ECU TO BE CHECKED
  • ETACS
OK: "OK" is displayed on the "ETACS ECU" menu.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Refer to Inspection Procedure A-3 "Communication with the ETACS-ECU is not possible ."

Step 3. SWS monitor data list.

Check the SWS communication signal, which are related to the vehicle speed-dependent unfolding function.
<Selected item> ETACS ECU
  • Ignition switch: ON

Normal conditions
Item 30
IG SW(IG1)
ON
OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Refer to inspection procedure P-2 "The ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received ."

Step 4. ETACS ANALOG data by using the SWS monitor.

Check the ETACS-ECU input signals related to the vehicle speed-dependent unfolding function.

  • Set the simulated vehicle speed at approximately 10km/h.
Item No.
Item name
Normal condition
Item 03
SPEED SENSOR
8 to 10 km/h
OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Refer to inspection procedure P-22 "The vehicle speed signal is not received ."

Step 5. Retest the system.

Check that the vehicle speed-dependent unfolding function of the door mirrors works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
