Code No. P0715, P0720, P0791 (Simultaneous detection) : Malfunction of Speed Sensor Power Supply Circuit

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION

The CVT-ECU determines whether the system is defective by monitoring the primary pulley speed sensor, secondary pulley speed sensor and output speed sensor.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the following connector.

  • Primary pulley speed sensor connector
  • Secondary pulley speed sensor connector
  • Output speed sensor connector
  • CVT-ECU connector
Check the terminals for a contact status problem and internal short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check for open circuit in SGN2 line between the primary pulley speed sensor connector and the CVT-ECU connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 3. Voltage measurement at primary pulley speed sensor connector (terminal No. 1).

(1)Disconnect the primary pulley speed sensor connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between the primary pulley speed sensor connector (terminal No. 1) and body earth.
OK: 10 V or more

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
NO : Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness (power supply line between the primary pulley speed sensor connector terminal No. 1 and the J/B connector).

STEP 4. Check for open circuit in SGN2 line between the secondary pulley speed sensor connector and the CVT-ECU connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at secondary pulley speed sensor connector (terminal No. 1).

(1)Disconnect the secondary pulley speed sensor connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between the secondary pulley speed sensor connector (terminal No. 1) and body earth.
OK: 10 V or more

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
NO : Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness (power supply line between the secondary pulley speed sensor connector terminal No. 1 and the J/B connector).

STEP 6. Check for open circuit in SGN2 line between the output speed sensor connector and the CVT-ECU connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Voltage measurement at output speed sensor connector (terminal No. 1).

(1)Disconnect the output speed sensor connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between the output speed sensor connector (terminal No. 1) and body earth.
OK: 10 V or more

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
NO : Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness (power supply line between the output speed sensor connector terminal No. 1 and the J/B connector).

STEP 8. Symptom recheck after erasing diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Replace the CVT-ECU.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions).
