Inspection Procedure 9: Day/night mode is not switched in accordance with the tail lamps.



caution Whenever the multivision display is replaced, ensure that the power supply circuit and the earthing circuit are normal. (Check that the voltage is 10 V or more.)

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


If the tail lamps illuminate, illumination signal is sent from the ETACS-ECU to the multivision display. This switches the illumination of the multivision display from day mode to night mode. If the mode is switched, the illumination signal line, the ETACS-ECU or the multivision display may be defective. In addition, the screen mode may be set to "Day" or "Night" on the MMES source screen.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. MMES setting check


Check whether the screen mode is set to "Auto" on the MMES source screen.
How to check
  1. Press the [SRC] button to display the Source screen.
  2. Check whether the screen mode is set to "Auto" on the source screen.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.

Set the screen mode to "Auto".

STEP 2. Check that the tail lamps illuminate.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.

Diagnose the tail lamps. (Refer to .)

STEP 3. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in ILL+ line between multivision display connector and ETACS-ECU (tail lamp relay)


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Combination meter check


When the tail lamps are activated, check that the combination meter switches from day mode to night mode.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Replace the ETACS-ECU.

STEP 5. Substitute the ETACS-ECU with good one, and check the trouble symptom.


Substitute the ETACS-ECU with good one. When the tail lamps illuminate, check that the illumination of the multivision display is switched from day mode to night mode.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the ETACS-ECU.

Replace the multivision display.
