Code No. P0458: Purge Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Input
OPERATION
- Power is supplied to the purge control solenoid valve connector terminal from the engine control relay connector terminal.
- The engine-ECU connector terminal PURG makes the power transistor in the unit be in ON position, and that makes currents go on the purge control solenoid valve connector terminal.
FUNCTION
- In response to a signal from the engine-ECU, the purge control solenoid valve controls the flow rate of the purge air to be introduced into the inlet manifold.
TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
Check Conditions
- Engine is being cranked.
- Battery positive voltage is more than 10 V and is less than 16.5 V.
Judgement Criteria
- The solenoid voltage is less than 3 V with the purge control solenoid valve driving.
Check Conditions
- Battery positive voltage is more than 10 V and is less than 16.5 V.
Judgement Criterion
- The solenoid voltage is more than 3 V for 2 seconds.
FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Failed purge control solenoid valve
- Open/short circuit or harness damage in purge control solenoid value circuit or loose connector contact
- Failed engine-ECU

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III actuator test

OK: Operating sound can be heard and the valve vibrates
|
|
|

 Go to Step 2.
|

STEP 2. Check purge control solenoid valve itself.
|
|
|
- Purge control solenoid valve check (Refer to GROUP 17 - Emission Control <MPI> - Evaporative Emission Control System - Purge Control Solenoid Valve Check ).

Is the check result normal?
|
|
|
Go to Step 3.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Replace the purge control solenoid valve.
|
|
|
|
|
|
STEP 3. Voltage measurement at purge control solenoid valve connector (power supply line).
|
|
|
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
|
|
|
(3)Check the voltage between the purge control solenoid valve connector (power supply line) and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Go to Step 4.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Repair or replace the connector(s), or check and repair the harness of short circuit to earth, and open circuit in power supply line between engine control relay connector and purge control solenoid valve connector.

STEP 4. Voltage measurement at engine-ECU connector (PURG terminal).
|
|
|
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
|
|
|
(3)Check the voltage between the engine-ECU connector (PURG terminal) and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Go to Step 5.
|

|
|
|
|
Repair or replace the connector(s), or check and repair the harness of short to earth, and open circuit in PURG line between purge control solenoid valve connector and engine-ECU connector.

STEP 5. Check of harness damage in PURG line between purge control solenoid valve connector and engine-ECU connector.

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
