Code No. C2253: EPB SW malfunction




OPERATION




DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITIONS


The diagnosis code will be set under any of the following conditions:


PROBABLE CAUSES




DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (OFF) position.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(4)Check if the diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is diagnosis code No. C2253 set?

Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (OFF) position.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Move the selector lever to the P position.
(4)Operate the electric parking brake switch to apply and then release the electric parking brake.
(5)Check if the diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is diagnosis code No. C2253 set?

Go to Step 3.
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list


Check the following data list (Refer to ).

  • Item No.2: EPB switch:LOCK 1 SW
  • Item No.3: EPB switch:LOCK 2 SW
  • Item No.4: EPB switch:RELEASE 1 SW
  • Item No.5: EPB switch:RELEASE 2 SW

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 7.

STEP 4. Check of short to earth, and open circuit in LCK1, LCK2, REL1 or REL2 line between electric parking brake ECU connector and electric parking brake switch connector


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Measure the resistance at the electric parking brake switch connector.


(1)Check the electric parking brake switch connector.
(2)Disconnect the connector and measure at the wiring harness side.
(3)Measure the resistance between terminal No.1 and body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
The earth circuit may be open. Repair the wiring harness wires or connectors between the electric parking brake switch connector and the body earth.

STEP 6. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (OFF) position.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(4)Check if the diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is diagnosis code No. C2253 set?

Go to Step 7.
This diagnosis is complete.

STEP 7. Check the electric parking brake switch.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Replace the electric parking brake switch (Refer to ).

STEP 8. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (OFF) position.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(4)Move the selector lever to the P position.
(5)Operate the electric parking brake switch to apply and then release the electric parking brake.
(6)Check if the diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is diagnosis code No. C2253 set?

Replace the electric parking brake ECU (Refer to ).
This diagnosis is complete.
