Inspection Procedure 1: The Automatic Anti-Dazzling Mirror does not Work Normally.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the dimming function activates automatically. If the dimming function does not work normally, the inside rear view mirror, ignition switch circuit system, input circuit system of the inhibitor switch may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Damaged harness wires or connectors
  • Malfunction of the inhibitor switch
  • Malfunction of the inside rear view mirror

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code

Check if the diagnosis code is set in the ETACS-ECU.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Diagnose the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS - Troubleshooting).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list

Use the ETACS-ECU service data to check the signals related to the operation of the automatic anti-dazzling mirror.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position.
Item No.
Item name
Normal condition
288
ACC switch
ON
OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS - Input Signal Procedure 1 "The ignition switch (ACC) signal is not received.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list

Use the ETACS-ECU service data to check the signals related to the operation of the automatic anti-dazzling mirror.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
Item No.
Item name

OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS - Input Signal Procedure 2 "The ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received".

STEP 4. M.U.T.-III data list

Use the ETACS-ECU service data to check the signals related to the operation of the automatic anti-dazzling mirror.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

  • Selector lever is "R" (Reverse) position
Item No.

ON
OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 8.

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at inside rear view mirror connector (ACC1 line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness-side connector.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position.
(3)Voltage between inside rear view mirror connector (ACC1 line) and the body earth
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Resistance measurement at inside rear view mirror connector (earth line).

(1)Disconnect inside rear view mirror connector, and measure the resistance available at the wiring harness side.
(2)Continuity between inside rear view mirror connector (earth line) and body earth
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Voltage measurement at inside rear view mirror connector (BLP2 line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness-side connector.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Move the selector lever to the "R" (Reverse) position.
(4)Voltage between inside rear view mirror connector (BLP2 line) and the body earth
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check the inhibitor switch and the control cable.

Check that the inhibitor switch and the control cable are adjusted correctly (Refer to GROUP 23A, On-vehicle Service, Inhibitor Switch and Control Cable Adjustment).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Adjust the inhibitor switch and the control cable.

STEP 9. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in BLP+ line between ETACS-ECU connector and inhibitor switch connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 10. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in BLP1 line between inhibitor switch connector and ETACS-ECU connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 11. Check the inside rear view mirror.

Check that the harness connector is correctly mounted to the inside rear view mirror (Refer to ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).
Replace the inside rear view mirror.
