Code No. C2228 Steering angle sensor




OPERATION


The clearance warning control unit sets diagnosis code No. C2228 when it detects any steering wheel sensor signal failure or the steering wheel sensor informs the ECU that an internal malfunction has occurred or the neutral position has not been learned.

TROUBLE JUDGEMENT


Any of the conditions below is satisfied:

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics


Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.

Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. Check the steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) for proper installation.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.

Repair the steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) (Refer to ).

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list.


Check the input signal (Refer to ).

Nearly the same as the steering wheel operation angle <-720 to 720 deg>
OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

Replace the steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) (Refer to ).

STEP 4. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set in the clearance warning control unit.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
(3)Check if diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Replace the steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) (Refer to ) and then go to Step 5.

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).

STEP 5. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set in the clearance warning control unit.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
(3)Check if diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Replace the clearance warning control unit (Refer to ).
