Code No. C2229
Shift position abnormality
OPERATION
The clearance warning control unit sets diagnosis code No. C2229 when it receives any
invalid shift position signal for at least 1.5 seconds.
TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
The condition below is satisfied:
- An invalid shift position signal is sent for at least 1.5 seconds.
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Malfunction of CAN bus
- Malfunction of selector lever assembly (Shift sensor or select sensor)
- Malfunction of clearance warning control unit
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting).
STEP 2. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code
Check whether the CVT-ECU or A/T-ECU diagnosis codes are set or not.
Q.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Diagnose the CVT-ECU or A/T-ECU (Refer to GROUP 23A - Troubleshooting <CVT> or
GROUP 23C - Troubleshooting <A/T>).
Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.
Check again if the diagnosis code is set in the clearance warning control unit.

(1)Erase the diagnosis code.

(2)Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.

(3)Check if diagnosis code is set.

Replace the clearance warning control unit (Refer to ).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How
to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).
