GENERAL INFORMATION

A Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist) system is available as an option. This system recognises a vehicle at a rear corner (blind spot) by using radars in the rear bumper. When another vehicle is detected, the system illuminates or blinks the indicator on the door mirror to alert the driver. This system also features a Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) function. This function blinks the indicator on the door mirror (LH side, RH side) and provides visible and audible warnings on the combination meter indicator and meter display when another vehicle is approaching or crossing during reversing.

BSW-ECU (Integrated with radar)
5

  • Determines whether the Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist) / Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system should be activated according to the results (such as distance) from the sensors, and sends the control request signals to the combination mete, door mirror indicator.
  • There are two types of BSW-ECU; BSW-ECU (master) and BSW-ECU (slave). The BSW-ECU (master) and BSW-ECU (slave) communicate with each other via CAN. The BSW-ECU (master) communicates with the Gateway-ECU via CAN.

ASC-ECU
6
Sends vehicle speed and ASC status signals to the BSW-ECU.
Gateway-ECU
7
Communicates with the ASC-ECU, the AT-ECU, the column switch assembly (Integrated with steering wheel sensor), the ETACS-ECU, the BSW ON/OFF switch status and the combination meter to request the BSW-ECU to control the system.
ETACS-ECU
8
Informs the BSW-ECU of the turn switch status, etc.
Diagnosis connector
9
Is connected to M.U.T.-III to read the diagnosis code and service data associated with the BSW-ECU.

Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)/ Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system function

caution
  • The Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)/ Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system does not operate in the following conditions:

    1. The ignition switch is other than ON.
    2. The Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)/ Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system is set to OFF by operating the BSW switch.
  • It sometimes happens that a motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian are detected as obstacles, but these are not the object of the Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)/ Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system operation.
  • The Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)/ Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system may not operate in the following conditions.

    1. The sensors or surroundings stickers or accessories have been attached.
    2. Under adverse weather conditions (rain, snow, sand storms, etc.).
    3. When approaching an obstacle too closely.
    4. When a vehicle cuts in front or behind your vehicle very closely.
    5. When only a part of the obstacle is within the detection areas of the sensor.
    6. When the rain, snow, water or dirt adheres to the BSW ECU and rear bumper corner.
    7. When the sensor is extremely hot or cold (while the vehicle is parked for a long period of time under a blazing sun or in cold weather).
    8. When driving on a road with many and successive curves, including when passing their entrances and outlets.
    9. When driving on a road with steep and alternating up and down slopes.
    10. When a road surface is surging, and there is unevenness or gravel.
    11. When the vehicle body is extremely inclined by carrying heavy loads or improper adjustment of the tyre pressure.
    12. When the driving is unstable due to an accident or trouble.
    13. The sensors or surroundings have been stickers or accessories have been attached.

    1. Vehicle towing a trailer etc.
    2. A freight trailer that is not carrying a container.
    3. Vehicle that has a protruding load from the carrier.
    4. Obstacles in low positions.
    5. Vehicle that is extremely stained.
    6. Vehicle or obstacle that is covered with snow.
    7. A large mesh screen fence.
    8. The vehicle is the specific shape such as the carrier car.
    9. Obstacles that have irregular surface.
    10. Obstacles that have the shape of the pole such as the road marker or the streetlight.
    11. Obstacles that exist in the high position from the ground.
    12. The obstacles which does not reflect an electric wave including cloth and the paper.
    13. Obstacles that are shaped with a sharp angle.
  • The Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)/ Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system may be triggered under the following situations.

    1. When the surrounding vehicle or oncoming vehicle drives blowing up the water, snow or sand on the road.
    2. When the rain, snow, water or dirt adheres to the sensor (BSW ECU) and neighbouring rear bumpers.
    3. When there are objects, steps or projections on the road surface.
    4. When running the road, the gradient changes suddenly.
    5. When passing close to the vehicle or an obstacle.
    6. When passing through a vinyl curtain etc.
    7. When the surrounding area is overgrown with weeds.
  • Turn off the system by pressing the BSW switch beforehand when the vehicle is placed in any of the following situations as the system can operate unexpectedly.

    1. Do not modify the suspension of your vehicle.
    2. When your vehicle’s wheels are driven by the engine on a lift.
    3. When your vehicle is towed or your vehicle tows another vehicle.
    4. When your vehicle is on a chassis dynamometer or free rollers.
    5. When the tyre pressure is not proper.

Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (Lane Change Assist) Rear Cross Traffic Alert [RCTA] system function

Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (Lane Change Assist) system function

  • A Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist) system recognises a vehicle at a rear corner (blind spot) by using radars on the body in the rear bumper. When another vehicle and the vehicle which comes close in an adjacent traffic lane is detected, the system illuminates or blinks the warning lamp on the door mirror to alert the driver. When the system expects that another vehicle enters the warning area from next to or behind in another lane, it will alert the driver to refrain from lane change, thus avoiding or mitigating accidents.
  • The Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist) system will provide audible and visible warnings when another vehicle enters the warning area while your vehicle speed is 10 km/h or more and the selector lever is not at R range.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system function

  • This system also features a Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) function. This function blinks the indicator on the door mirror and provides visible and audible warnings on the combination meter indicator and meter display when another vehicle is approaching or crossing during reversing.
  • If the vehicle travelling ahead accelerates, your vehicle also accelerates within the set vehicle speed.

Operation: Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (Lane Change Assist) system function

The blind spot warning system is activated when the blind spot warning switch is on, the selector lever is at other than R and the vehicle speed is more than 10 km/h. Then two side sensors (in the rear bumper) are initiated to detect a vehicle.
