When the rocker arm is removed from
the rocker shaft, tag them to show the installation
for the reinstallation of the rocker arm, the T-lever, the
piston arm assembly and so on.

caution |
If the lash adjuster is
re-used, clean the lash adjuster. (Refer
to lash adjuster inspection .)
|
Set special tool Auto-lash adjuster holder
(MD998443) to prevent the lash adjuster coming
free and falling to the floor.

caution |
Use care to prevent confusion
of the right and left bank camshafts.
|
1.Apply engine oil to the camshaft journals
and cams and then install the camshafts.
note |
The camshaft with a longer
overall length is for the left bank.

2.Check to see that the
dowel pin of the camshaft is located at the position
shown.

caution |
If the lash adjuster is
re-used, clean the lash adjuster. (Refer to lash

Fit the lash adjuster onto the rocker arm without
allowing diesel fuel to spill out. Fit
special tool Auto-lash adjuster holder (MD998443) to prevent
the lash adjuster coming free and falling
to the floor.

When installing the screw to the
rocker arm temporary, project it slightly 3mm from the
same face level of the rocker arm end as shown.

1.The end with the larger
chamfer is at the right on the front bank and at the left on
the
rear bank.

The side with the four bolt
holds is on the intake side

2.The side with the oil holes is on the lower
side (cylinder head side).
|

3.Check that notches in the
each rocker shaft are facing the direction shown in the
illustration. 4.Install the rocker shaft cap as
its identification mark is in the direction
shown. 5.Tighten the inlet side bolts to the
specified torque of 31 ±
3 N·m. 6.Tighten the exhaust side bolts to
the specified torque of 13 ±
1 N·m. 7.Remove special tool Lash adjuster
holder (MD998443).

Use special tools Camshaft oil seal
installer (MD998713) and Camshaft oil seal installer
adapter (MB991559) to install the camshaft oil
seal.
