Code No. P1564: Auto-cruise Control Switch System














OPERATION


This circuit judges the signals of each switch ["ON/OFF" (MAIN), "CANCEL", "COAST/SET" and "ACC/RES"] of the auto-cruise control switch. The engine-ECU detects the state of the auto-cruise control switch by sensing the voltages shown below.


DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITIONS


If the auto-cruise control switch is operated, this diagnosis code will be set when the engine-ECU terminal voltage is different from the standard value.
Or, this code is set when the "COAST/SET" switch or "ACC/RES" switch is stuck to ON.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list.



  • Item 136: "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch
  • Item 137: "CANCEL" switch
  • Item 138: "COAST/SET" switch
  • Item 139: "ACC/RES" switch
(Refer to data list reference table ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 2. Read the diagnosis code.


(1)Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal, and erase the diagnosis code of the auto-cruise control system.
(2)Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position, and press the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to turn the auto-cruise control system to ON.
(4)After turning the auto-cruise control system to ON, when 2 minutes or more has elapsed without operating the auto-cruise control switches, read the diagnosis code of the auto-cruise control system.

Q. Is diagnosis code No. P1564 set?

Replace the engine-ECU (Refer to GROUP 13D - Engine-ECU ). Then go to Step 18.
It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

STEP 3. Measure the voltage at auto-cruise control switch connector D-301.


(1)Remove the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ].
(2)Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to the OFF position.
(4)Measure the voltage between connector D-301 terminal No. 4 and earth.
OK: 4.7-5.0 V
(5)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Measure the voltage at engine-ECU connector D-213.


(1)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to the OFF position.
(2)Measure the voltage between engine-ECU connector D-213 terminal No. 43 and earth.
OK: 4.7-5.0 V
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Connector check: D-213 engine-ECU connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Repair or replace the faulty connector, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18 .

STEP 6. Check the harness between engine-ECU connector D-213 terminal No. 43 and the auto-cruise control switch connector D-301 terminal No. 4.


(1)Disconnect engine-ECU connector D-213 and measure at the harness connector side.
(2)Measure the continuity between engine-ECU connector D-213 terminal No. 43 and earth.
(3)Connect engine-ECU connector D-213.

Q. Is the measured continuity open circuit?

Install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then return to Step 1.
Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Connectors check: D-301 auto-cruise control switch connector, D-302 and D-305 clock spring connectors.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair or replace the faulty connector, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18 .

STEP 8. Check the clock spring.


Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring Inspection .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Replace the clock spring and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18.

STEP 9. Check the harness between engine-ECU connector D-213 terminal No. 43 and the auto-cruise control switch connector D-301 terminal No. 4.


Q. Is the check result normal?

It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ). Install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ].
Repair the damaged harness wire, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18.

STEP 10. Measure the voltage at auto-cruise control switch connector D-301.


(1)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to the ON position.
(2)Measure the voltage between connector D-301 terminal No. 3 and earth.
OK: 0.3 V or less
(3)Turn the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to the OFF position and the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 16.
Go to Step 11.

STEP 11. Measure the voltage at engine-ECU connector D-213.


(1)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) to the ON position.
(2)Measure the voltage between engine-ECU connector D-213 terminal No. 66 and earth.
OK: 0.3 V or less
(3)Turn the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to the OFF position and the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 13.
Go to Step 12.

STEP 12. Connector check: D-213 engine-ECU connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then return to Step 1.
Repair or replace the faulty connector, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18 .

STEP 13. Connectors check: D-213 engine-ECU connector, D-301 auto-cruise control switch connector, D-302 and D-305 clock spring connectors.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 14.
Repair or replace the faulty connector, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18 .

STEP 14. Check the clock spring.


Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring Inspection .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 15.
Replace the clock spring and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18.

STEP 15. Check the harness between engine-ECU connector D-213 terminal No. 66 and the auto-cruise control switch connector D-301 terminal No. 3.


Q. Is the check result normal?

It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ). Install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ].
Repair the damaged harness wire, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18.

STEP 16. Connector check: D-301 auto-cruise control switch connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 17.
Repair or replace the faulty connector, and install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18 .

STEP 17. Check the auto-cruise control switch.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then return to Step 1.
Replace the auto-cruise control switch (Refer to ). Install the air bag module (driver’s side) [Refer to GROUP 52B - Driver’s, Front Passenger’s Air Bag Module(s) and Clock Spring ]. Then go to Step 18.

STEP 19. Read the diagnosis code.


(1)Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal, and erase the diagnosis code of the auto-cruise control system.
(2)Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position, and press the "ON/OFF" (MAIN) switch to turn the auto-cruise control system to ON.
(4)After turning the auto-cruise control system to ON, when 2 minutes or more has elapsed without operating the auto-cruise control switches, read the diagnosis code of the auto-cruise control system.

Q. Is diagnosis code No. P1564 set?

Replace the engine-ECU (Refer to GROUP 13D - Engine-ECU ). Then go to Step 18.
The procedure is complete.
