Inspection Procedure 4: The rear washer does not work normally.





caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.


















COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


If the rear washer does not work normally, the input signal circuits to the rear washer switch, rear washer motor or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES



  • Malfunction of the washer motor
  • Malfunction of the column switch
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the front-ECU
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


Step 1. Confirm the operation of the rear wiper.


Check that the rear wiper works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Refer to Inspection Procedure 1 "The rear wiper does not operate at all ."

Step 2. Pulse check


Check the input signals below which are related to the rear washer.

  • Ignition switch: ACC
System switch
Check condition
Column switch (rear washer switch)
When the switch is turned from off to on
OK: The M.U.T.-III sounds or the voltmeter needle fluctuates.

Q. Are the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS, Inspection procedure C-7 "The column switch (windshield wiper washer and rear wiper washer switch) signal is not received ."

Step 3. Connector check: G-07 washer motor connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector.

Step 4. Check the washer motor.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Replace the washer motor.

Step 5. Confirm the operation of the windshield washer.


Check that the windshield washer works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the ETACS-ECU.
Go to Step 6.

Step 6. Connector check: D-421 ETACS-ECU connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector.

Step 7. Check the wiring harness between D-421 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.23 and G-07 washer motor connector terminal No.2.


note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-219 and E-105, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the output signal line.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the wiring harness.

Step 8. Retest the system.


Check that the rear washer works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
