REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION



warning
  • Do not drop the air bag modules or allow contact with water, grease or oil. Replace if a dent, crack, deformation or rust is present.
  • Store the air bag modules on a flat surface with the deployment surface facing up. Do not place anything on top of them.
  • Do not store the air bag modules in a place more than 93°C.
  • When the side and curtain air bags have been deployed, replace the front seatback assembly and curtain air bag modules with new ones.
  • Put on gloves and safety glasses when handling deployed air bags.
  • When discarding the non-deployed air bag module(s), be sure to deploy the air bag(s) in advance as specified in the service procedure (Refer to ).

REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS



<<A>> NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION


danger Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting the battery cable before doing any further work (Refer to ).

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and tape the terminal to prevent accidental connection and air bag(s) deployment.

<<B>> FRONT SEATBACK FRAME REMOVAL


warning When replacing the side-air bag module, replace the front seatback frame. Refer to GROUP 52A, Front seat assembly .
caution
  • Never use an electric tester to diagnose the air bag module circuit. Never attempt to disassemble the air bag module.
  • The removed air bag module should be stored in a clean, dry place.

<<C>> CONNECTOR REMOVAL



Use a flat-tipped screwdriver to unlock the locking button at the harness side connector by withdrawing it toward you in two stages, and then disconnect the connector.

<<D>> CURTAIN AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL


caution
  • Never use an electric tester to diagnose the air bag module circuit. Never attempt to disassemble the air bag module.
  • The removed air bag module should be stored in a clean, dry place.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS



>>A<< PRE-INSTALLATION INSPECTION


1.When installing the new air bag modules and clock spring, refer to “INSPECTION” ().
note Even when installing a new seatback frame (side-airbag module), perform an inspection before the installation.
2.Connect the negative battery cable.
3.
caution To prevent damage to M.U.T.-III, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting M.U.T.-III.
Connect M.U.T.-III to the diagnosis connector.
4.Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
5.Check diagnosis codes using M.U.T.-III to ensure entire SRS operates properly.
At this time, check that no diagnosis code except B1421, B1431, B1441 and B1451 are set.
6.

Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Disconnect the negative battery cable and tape the terminal to prevent accidental connection and air bags deployment.

caution
  • Take care not to contort the curtain air bag when installing it.
  • Take care that the surrounding components do not trap the air bag.
  • Take care that the front pillar trim clips or other do not trap the strap.
Hang the strap on the strap guide.

>>C<< CONNECTOR INSTALLATION


caution Connect the connector to the inflator thoroughly.

>>D<< POST-INSTALLATION INSPECTION


1.Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2.Turn the ignition switch to “ON” position.

3.Does the SRS warning lamp illuminate for about 7 seconds, and go out?
4.If no, refer to troubleshooting (Refer to ).
