Inspection Procedure 1: The Approach Lamps does not Illuminate or Extinguish Normally.

caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

The ETACS-ECU operates the approach lamps in accordance with the input signals below.

If this function does not work normally, these input signal circuit(s) or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Pulse check

Check the input signals below, which are related to the approach lamps.
System switch
Check condition
Driver’s door switch
Driver’s door is opened while all the other doors are closed.
Passenger’s door switch
Passenger’s door is opened while all the other doors are closed.
Rear door (RH) switch
Rear door (RH) is opened while all the other doors are closed
Rear door (LH) switch
Rear door (LH) door is opened while all the other doors are closed
Back door switch
Back door is opened while all the other doors are closed
Driver’s door lock actuator switch (unlock switch)
When the driver’s door is unlocked or locked
OK: The M.U.T.-III sounds or the voltmeter needle fluctuates.

Q. Are the check result normal?

YES (All the signals are received normally) : Go to Step 2.

NO (All the door switch signals are not received) : Refer to ETACS - Input Signal Chart .

NO (The driver’s door lock actuator switch (unlock switch) signal is not received) : Refer to ETACS - Input Signal Chart .

STEP 2. Retest the system.

Check that the approach lamps illuminate normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Fuse check: Fuse No.8 and No.24.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

Replace the fuse.

STEP 4. Check the bulb of the approach lamps.

Check the bulb of the defective lamp.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Replace the bulb(s) of the defective lamp.

STEP 5. Connector check: F-09-1 approach lamp (RH) or F-04-1 approach lamp (LH) connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 6. Check the wiring harness from fusible link No.1 to F-09-1 approach lamp (RH) connector terminal No.2 or F-04-1 approach lamp (LH) connector terminal No.2.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-114 <approach lamp (RH)>, D-133 <approach lamp (LH)>, D-238, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Connector check: D-420 ETACS-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.

STEP 8. Check the wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.52 to F-09-1 approach lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 or F-04-1 approach lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-114 <approach lamp (RH)>, D-133 <approach lamp (LH)>, joint connector D-34 and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 9. Retest the system.

Check that the approach lamps illuminate normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Replace the ETACS-ECU.
