Inspection Procedure 7: The Compass does not Indicate Normally.


















COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


The compass sensor is abnormal, or it is seemed that the indication is affected by some nearby magnetized matter.

PROBABLE CAUSES



DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1.Check of own vehicle position.

Q. Is the geomagnetism stable at the place?

Go to Step 3.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Move the vehicle to the geomagnetically stable location to re-check the geomagnetism.

Q. Is there any abnormality at the geomagnetism sensor mode?
Go to Step 3.
There is no action to be taken.

STEP 3. Check of compass sensor for magnetisation.


Q. Does the indication return to normal when the carrier antenna that is mounted on the body by a magnet, a magnet or metal existing nearby the compass sensor is removed?
There is no action to be taken.
Go to step 4.

STEP 4. Connector check: G-01 compass sensor connector

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector concerned.

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at G-01 compass sensor connector.
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness-side connector.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
(3)Voltage between G-01 compass sensor connector terminal No.5 and the body earth
OK: Battery voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check the harness wire between G-01 compass sensor connector terminal No.5 and ignition swtich (ACC).
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-220 <LH drive vehicles>, D-221, D-238, D-241 and E-106, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the power supply lines (ACC power supply) for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?
If no malfunctions are not found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Connector check: D-106 centre display unit connector

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector concerned.

STEP 8. Check the harness wire between D-106 centre display unit connector terminal No.1, 2, 3 and G-01 compass sensor connector terminal No.8, 16, 15

  • Check the communication lines for open circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-221 and E-106, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 9. Substitute a known good compass sensor, and check the trouble symptom.
Check whether the compass does indicate normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Replace the compass sensor.
Replace the centre display unit.
