Code No.01 Trouble in SWS Communication Line System or ETACS-ECU

caution If diagnosis code No.01 is set in the ETACS-ECU, diagnose the CAN bus lines.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

The ETACS-ECU communicates with the column switch, the front-ECU, the sunroof motor assembly and the power window main switch <Vehicles for South Africa> through the SWS communication line. If there is any trouble in the ETACS-ECU or the SWS communication lines, diagnosis code No.01 will be set.

COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

The wiring harness wire or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damage terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector, or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics

Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54D - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. Check the following connectors.

Check the following connectors:

  • D-420 ETACS-ECU connector
  • D-311 Column switch connector
  • A-09X Front-ECU connector
  • E-03 Sunroof motor assembly connector
  • F-02 Power window main switch connector <Vehicles for South Africa>

Q. Are all the connectors in good condition?

Go to Step 3.
Repair the defective connector

STEP 3. Check the following wiring harness.

Check the wiring harness between the following connectors:

  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to D-311 column switch connector terminal No.3
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to A-09X front-ECU connector terminal No.22
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to E-03 sunroof motor assembly connector terminal No.10
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to F-02 sunroof motor assembly connector terminal No.4 <Vehicles for South Africa>
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-114 <Vehicles for South Africa>, D-130 and D-241, and repair if necessary.

Q. Are all the wiring harness wires in good condition?

Go to Step 4.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 4. Check whether the diagnosis code is reset.

Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Ignition switch: LOCK (OFF) position to ON
(3)On completion, check that the diagnosis code is not reset.

Q. Is the check result normal?

If a trouble is solved, it is determined that there is an intermittent malfunction such as poor engaged connector(s) or open circuit (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
