REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS

<<A>> POWER STEERING OIL PUMP AND A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT REMOVAL

1.Loosen the idler pulley nut.
2.
caution To reuse the drive belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction (clockwise) on the back of the belt using chalk, etc.
Turn the adjusting bolt in the anti-clockwise direction (to the left) to remove the drive belt.

<<B>> ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT REMOVAL

The following operations will be needed due to the introduction of the serpentine drive system with the drive belt auto-tensioner.

1.Set the tool to the pulley bolt of drive belt auto-tensioner, and then turn the drive belt auto-tensioner anti-clockwise.
2.
caution To reuse the drive belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction (clockwise) on the back of the belt using chalk, etc.
Insert a 4 mm-dia. L-shaped hexagon wrench, etc. into the hole to fix and then remove the drive belt.

<<C>> CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WASHER/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REMOVAL

1.Use the following special tools to support the crankshaft pulley.

  • Front hub and flange yoke holder (MB990767)
  • Pin (MD998719)
2.Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley washer and crankshaft pulley.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS

>>A<< DOWEL PIN INSTALLATION

Press-fit the dowel pin to the crankshaft pulley as shown.

>>B<< CRANKSHAFT PULLEY/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WASHER/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT INSTALLATION

1.Wipe off the dirt on the oil pump drive shaft, crankshaft and crankshaft pulley as shown in the figure using a rag, and then degrease the areas.
note Degrease them to prevent drop in the friction coefficient of the pressed area, which is caused by oil adhesion.
2.Apply a small amount of engine oil to the entire inner diameter of the crankshaft front oil seal lip.
3.Install the crankshaft pulley.
4.Wipe off the dirt on the crankshaft pulley washer and the crankshaft pulley bolt as shown in the figure using a rag.
5.Apply an adequate and minimum amount of engine oil to the threads of the crankshaft pulley bolt and the lower area of the flange.
6.Use the following special tools as during removal to support the crankshaft pulley.

  • Front hub and flange yoke holder (MB990767)
  • Pin (MD998719)

7.Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt according to the following procedure.
(1) Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 250 N·m
(2) Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt fully.
(3) Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified torque again.
Tightening torque: 110 N·m
(4) As shown in the illustration "A," apply the paint mark to the crankshaft pulley on the extended line of the corner adjacent to the one of the crankshaft pulley bolt corners.
(5)
caution
  • When the tightening angle is smaller than the specified tightening angle, the appropriate tightening capacity cannot be secured.
  • When the tightening angle is larger than the specified tightening angle, remove the bolt to start from the beginning again according to the procedure.
Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt by 60° once more. Make sure the paint mark of crankshaft pulley bolt is aligned with the paint mark of crankshaft pulley as shown in the illustration "B."

>>C<< DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION

caution
  • To reuse the drive belt, install it by aligning the arrow mark on the backside of belt marked at the removal with the rotating direction.
  • Check that the notches of notched pulley and notches of drive belt are fit correctly.
  • Check that the drive belt is installed in the centre of flat surface of flat pulley.

Install the drive belt to each pulley as shown in the figure.
