REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS

<<A>> A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT REMOVAL

1.
caution
  • To reuse the drive belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction on the back of the drive belt using chalk to install the same direction.
  • Be careful not to get your fingers caught.
Set special tool drive belt remover (MB992728) between the A/C compressor drive belt and the crankshaft pulley as shown.
note Insert the special tool between the belt and the pulley.

2.Use a tool to rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the special tool reaches the bottom of the pulley.

3.The arrow on the special tool should point in direction of travel. Then prise off the A/C compressor drive belt.
4.Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise further to remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
5.Check the crankshaft pulley groove for dust or dirt. If it is contaminated, use an air blower to clean.

<<B>> ALTERNATOR AND POWER STEERING OIL PUMP DRIVE BELT REMOVAL

The following operations will be needed due to the introduction of the serpentine drive system with the auto-tensioner.

1.Set the tool to the pulley bolt of auto-tensioner, and then turn the auto-tensioner clockwise.
2.
caution To reuse the drive belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction (clockwise) on the back of the belt using chalk, etc.
Insert an L-shaped hexagon wrench, etc. into the hole to fix and then remove the drive belt.

<<C>> CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WASHER/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REMOVAL

1.Use the following special tools to hold the crankshaft pulley.

  • Pulley holder (MB991800)
  • Crank pulley holder (MB992100)
2.Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley washer and crankshaft pulley.

3.If the crankshaft pulley cannot be removed from the crankshaft, follow the procedure below.
(1) Install the crankshaft pulley bolt and crankshaft pulley washer to the crankshaft pulley. At this time, the crankshaft pulley bolt must be loosened by 3 to 4 turns from the completely tightened state.
(2) Using the special tools below, remove the crankshaft pulley.

  • Crank pulley puller (MB992099)
  • Crank pulley holder (MB992100)

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS

>>A<< CRANKSHAFT PULLEY/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WASHER/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT INSTALLATION

1.Wipe the dirt on the crankshaft pulley washer using a rag.
2.Using a rag, wipe the dirt on the crankshaft pulley, the crankshaft sprocket, the thread hole of the crankshaft and then remove the grease.
note Degreasing is necessary to prevent decrease in the friction between contacting surfaces.
3.Install the crankshaft pulley.
4.Apply an appropriate and minimum amount of engine oil to the threads of crankshaft pulley bolt and lower part of the flange.
5.Install the crankshaft pulley washer to the crankshaft pulley bolt.
6.In the same way as for removing, using the special tools below, support the crankshaft pulley.

  • Pulley holder (MB991800)
  • Crank pulley holder (MB992100)
7.Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt according to the procedure below.
(1) Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 265 N·m
(2) Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt fully.
(3) Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified torque again.
Tightening torque: 275 N·m

>>B<< ALTERNATOR AND POWER STEERING OIL PUMP DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION

caution
  • To reuse the drive belt, install it by aligning the arrow mark on the backside of belt marked at the removal with the rotating direction.
  • Check that the notches of notched pulley and notches of drive belt are fit correctly.
  • Check that the drive belt is installed in the centre of flat surface of flat pulley.

Install the drive belt to each pulley as shown in the figure.

>>C<< A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION

1.
caution To reuse the drive belt, install it by aligning the arrow mark on the backside of belt marked at the removal with the rotating direction.
Engage the A/C compressor drive belt with the A/C compressor pulley.

2.Put special tool drive belt installer (MB992992) on the crankshaft pulley, and then hook the A/C compressor drive belt onto the projection of the special tool.

3.Rotate the special tool to the direction shown by hand to tension the A/C compressor drive belt.

4.Check that the A/C compressor drive belt is engaged with the grooves in the crankshaft and the A/C compressor pulleys correctly.

5.
caution
  • Be careful not to get your fingers caught.
  • Never turn the crankshaft anti-clockwise.
Use a tool to rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. While doing this, be careful that the A/C compressor drive belt is not twisted or the belt ribs do not face outwards.
Note that the belt is engaged with grooves in the pulley correctly.
6.On completion, remove the special tool.
