Inspection Procedure 22: Glow System




OPERATION




PROBABLE CAUSES




DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.


Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Inspection chart for diagnosis code (Refer to ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check the glow indicator lamp illuminates.



  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Engine coolant temperature: 40°C or lower

Q. Is the glow indicator lamp illuminates?

Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics



  • Using M.U.T.-III, perform CAN bus line diagnosis.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Correct CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting - Can Bus Diagnostics Table ), and then go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the glow plug itself.



  • Check the glow plug itself (Refer to GROUP 16 - Glow System, On-vehicle Service - Glow Plug Check <4D5>).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair or replace the connector, or replace the glow plug relay.

STEP 5. Perform voltage measurement at glow plug relay connector.



  • Disconnect connector, and measurement at harness side.
  • Voltage between terminal power supply line and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check harness between glow plug relay connector terminal and fusible link, engine control relay connector terminal.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 7. Check harness between glow plug relay connector terminal and glow plug connector terminal.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 8. Check the trouble symptoms.


Q. Does the trouble symptom persist?

Replace the engine-ECU.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions).
