Inspection Procedure 21: Selector lever detent feel is strong/weak

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

When the detent feel of selector lever is strong or weak, the cause is probably a malfunction of the selector lever assembly, A/T misoperation prevention mechanism, or transmission control cable.

PROBABLE CAUSES

Malfunction of selector lever assembly
Malfunction of shift lock mechanism
Malfunction of transmission control cable
Malfunction of the A/T-ECU
A/T internal error

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Selector lever check

Check the installation status, damage in each section, and others of selector lever.

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go to Step 2.

	Repair or replace the selector lever.

STEP 2. Shift lock mechanism check

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go to Step 3.

	Repair or replace the shift lock mechanism.

STEP 3. Check of inhibitor switch and transmission control cable

Check the installation status of inhibitor switch and transmission control cable.

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go to Step 4.

	Adjust the inhibitor switch and the transmission control cable. (Refer to .)

STEP 4. Retest the system

Q. Is the trouble symptom reproduced?

	Go to Step 5.

	This diagnosis is complete.

STEP 5. A/T-ECU replacement

(1)Replace the A/T-ECU.

(2)Test drive the vehicle.

(3)Verify that the condition described by the customer exists.

Q. Is the trouble symptom reproduced?

	Check the manual valve lever shaft for damage, and replace if necessary.

	This diagnosis is complete.
