Code No.P0828: Shift Switch (Up Switch/Down Switch) System

PROBABLE CAUSES

OPERATION

The shift switch detects the up shift/down shift which the driver has selected, and sends the information to the A/T-ECU.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

While the engine is running, when the select switch is other than the sport mode, if the UP/DOWN signal from shift switch is detected continuously for 10 seconds, code No. P0828 is set.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list

  • Item 20: Shift lever switch (UP)
  • Item 21: Shift lever switch (DOWN)
Check the above data list (Refer to ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
NO "NG" for item 20 : Go to Step 2.
NO "NG" for item 21 : Go to Step 5.

STEP 2. Measure the voltage at A/T-ECU connector

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal UPSW line and body earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Selector lever position: Upshift and hold the selector lever.
OK: System voltage

STEP 7. Check the shift switch (Down switch).

Refer to .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 8. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.

  • Ignition switch: "LOCK"(OFF) → "ON"
  • Check again if the diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is diagnosis code No.P0828 set?

Replace the A/T-ECU.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
