Code No. C1469: R/D lock engage SW

OPERATION

When the rear differential lock is activated, the rear differential lock detection switch is turned to ON, connecting the transfer ECU to the earth. With this operation, the transfer ECU detects the rear differential status at the moment.

DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITIONS

When the OFF signal from the rear differential lock detection switch is input for 15 minutes continuously with the rear differential lock activated, or when the ON signal from the rear differential lock detection switch is input for 15 minutes continuously with the rear differential lock deactivated, code No. C1469 is set.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code

Check if diagnosis code is set in the transfer-ECU.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Troubleshoot the transfer-ECU. Refer to .
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list

Use the transfer-ECU service data to check the signals related to the operation of rear differential lock system.

  • Drive mode-selector: "4LLc" position
  • Turn the rear differential lock switch to the "ON" position.

OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at the rear differential lock detection switch connector (earth terminal).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the resistance between the rear differential lock detection switch connector (earth terminal) and body earth.
(3)OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check of open circuit in earth line between the rear differential lock detection switch connector and body earth.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in DSW line between transfer-ECU and rear differential lock detection switch connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Retest the system.

Check that the rear differential lock solenoid functions work normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Replace the differential carrier assembly (Refer to GROUP 27 - Differential carrier assembly ). Then go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Retest the system

Check that the rear differential lock detection switch functions work normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the transfer-ECU (Refer to ).
