caution For vehicles with ABS, be careful not to strike the pole piece at the tip of the rear wheel speed sensor with tools during servicing work.
Pre-removal Operation

  • Parking Brake Lever Stroke Adjustment (Refer to GROUP 36, On-vehicle Service ).

REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS



<<A>> AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY REMOVAL



Pull the rear axle shaft from axle housing. If the rear axle shaft is hard to remove, use the following special tools.

  • Slide hammer (MB990211)
  • Rear axle shaft puller (MB990241)

<<B>> OIL SEAL REMOVAL



Use the following special tools with hook attached to remove the oil seal.

  • Slide hammer (MB990211)
  • Adapter (MB990212)

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINT

Drive the new oil seal into the rear axle housing end by using the following special tools.

  • Installation adapter (MB990930)
  • Installer bar (MB990938)

>>B<< AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY/PLUG/REAR BRAKE DISC INSTALLATION


caution Align the plug hole on the rear brake disc with one of the four holes on the axle shaft. If you install the plug to the concave portion on the axle shaft by mistake, the plug will be adrift and the brake shoe cannot be adjusted.

1.Ensure that the plug hole on the rear brake disc is aligned with one of the four holes on the axle shaft.
2.Install the rear brake disc.
3.Install the plug.
