REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION



caution When you replace the electric parking brake actuator, use the M.U.T.-III to initialise learnt value for it (Refer to ).
Pre-removal Operation
  • Front Seat Assembly RH Removal (Refer to GROUP 52A - Front Seat Assembly ).
  • Audio Amplifier Removal (Refer to GROUP 54A - Amplifier ).
  • Rear Floor Console Assembly Removal (Refer to GROUP 52A - Rear Floor Console Assembly ).
  • Vacuum Tank Removal (Refer to GROUP 26 - Solenoid Valve and Vacuum Hose ) <Vehicles with Freewheel Clutch>.

Post-installation Operation
  • Vacuum Tank Installation (Refer to GROUP 26 - Solenoid Valve and Vacuum Hose ) <Vehicles with Freewheel Clutch>.

REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS



<<A>> PRE-REMOVAL OPERATION


1.<Case 1: The parking brake cable is released fully due to a fault (the electric parking brake warning lamp comes on, the brake warning lamp flashes and the electric parking brake switch is pressed down)>
Remove the components according to the specified sequence.
2.<Case 2: The parking brake cable is not released fully>
Use the M.U.T.-III to release the parking brake cables fully according to the procedure below:
(1) Move the selector lever to the P position.
(2) Connect the M.U.T.-III and turn ON the ignition switch (Refer to GROUP 00 - Precautions Before Service, M.U.T.-III ).
(3) Check the following actuator test (Refer to ).

  • Item No. 2: Full release control
(4) Remove the components according to the specified sequence.
3.<Case 3: The cable is not released fully in case 2>
(1) Release the electric parking brake manually (Refer to ).
(2) Remove the components according to the specified sequence.

<<B>> JOINT REMOVAL



Use a flat-tipped screwdriver to disengage the joint tabs, and then remove the joints from the parking brake cables.

<<C>> PARKING BRAKE CABLE BRACKET REMOVAL



1.Feed a 9/16" box-end wrench into the parking brake cable, and depress it until the stopper tabs are compressed together.
Alternatively, compress the stopper tabs with a cable tie.
2.Pull out the parking brake cable from the parking brake bracket.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS



>>A<< PARKING BRAKE CABLE BRACKET INSTALLATION



Pull back the parking brake cable to assure it is tightly fastened to the cable retainer.

>>B<< JOINT INSTALLATION


Attach the joints to the parking brake cables, and then use a flat-tipped screwdriver to secure the parking brake cables with the joint tabs.

>>C<< POST-INSTALLATION OPERATION


1.Pull up the electric parking brake switch to apply the parking brake.
Check that the brake warning lamp in the combination meter comes on.
2.Push down the electric parking brake switch to release the parking brake.
Check that the brake warning lamp in the combination meter goes out.
