Inspection Procedure 15: Washer fluid level warning lamp does not illuminate.

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect diagnosis code may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.
  • Before replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, earth circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics.

Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ). Then go to Step 9.

STEP 2. Check the washer fluid level warning lamp.

Check if the washer fluid level warning lamp illuminate normally when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Check the combination meter. Then go to Step 9.

STEP 3. Use M.U.T.-III to confirm a diagnosis code of other systems.

Check if the diagnosis code is set in the gateway-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting <Gateway>, Diagnosis Function).

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Troubleshoot the gateway-ECU diagnosis code (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting <Gateway>, Diagnosis Code Chart). Then go to Step 9.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Windshield washer tank fluid level sensor check.

Refer to GROUP 51 - Windshield Wiper and Washer, On-vehicle Service, Windshield Washer Tank Fluid Level Sensor Check .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Replace the windshield washer tank fluid level sensor (Refer to GROUP 51 - Windshield Wiper and Washer, Windshield Washer ). Then go to Step 9.

STEP 5. Resistance measurement at windshield washer tank fluid level sensor connector (earth terminal).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the resistance between the windshield washer tank fluid level sensor connector (earth terminal) and body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check of open circuit in earth line between windshield washer tank fluid level sensor connector and body earth.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness. Then go to Step 9.

STEP 7. Check of open circuit in DI03 line between gateway-ECU connector and windshield washer tank fluid level sensor connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness. Then go to Step 9.

STEP 8. M.U.T.-III data list check

Check the input signals from the windshield washer tank fluid level sensor.

  • Drain the washer fluid.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The procedure is complete (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected). (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).
Replace the gateway-ECU. Then go to Step 9.

STEP 9. Retest the system.

Check the washer fluid level warning lamp is illuminated normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

This diagnosis is complete.
