Inspection Procedure 2: No Sound Heard.

caution When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If no sound is played, the door speaker or the e-Call speaker is shorted, or the door speaker, the e-Call speaker, the e-Call relay box or the e-Call control unit may fail.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III special function.

Check the speaker (Refer to ).
Test
OK: A beep sound is heard (during the test).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).

NO <Item No.2> : Go to Step 2.

NO <Item No.4> : Go to Step 4.

NO <Item No.2 and 4> : Go to Step 9.

STEP 2. Check e-Call speaker

(1)Remove the e-Call speaker (Refer to ).
(2)Check that the e-Call speaker outputs the noise when the voltage of 5 V is applied to the e-Call speaker connector terminal.

Q. Do the e-Call speaker output the noise?

Go to Step 3.

Replace the e-Call speaker (Refer to ).

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at between the e-Call relay box connector (ESO+ or ESO- terminals)

(1)Disconnect the e-Call relay box connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector terminal ESO+ and ESO-.
OK: 0.9 Ω - 120 Ω
(3)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector (ESO+ terminal) and body earth.
OK: No continuity

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the e-Call relay box (Refer to ).

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Voltage measurement at between the e-Call relay box connector (IG, GND terminal)

(1)Disconnect the e-Call relay box connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3)Check the voltage between the e-Call relay box connector terminal IG and GND.
OK: Battery voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check of open circuit in IG line between the ignition switch and e-Call relay box connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Check of open circuit in GND line between the e-Call relay box connector and body earth.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Resistance measurement at between the e-Call relay box connector (DSO+ or DSO- terminals)

(1)Disconnect the e-Call relay box connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector terminal DSO+ and DSO-.
OK: 0.9 Ω - 120 Ω
(3)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector (DSO+ terminal) and body earth.
OK: No continuity

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check the door speaker (passenger’s side).

(1)Remove the door speaker (passenger’s side).
(2)Check that the door speaker (passenger’s side) outputs the noise when the voltage of 5 V is applied to the door speaker (passenger’s side) connector terminal.

Q. Do the door speaker (passenger’s side) output the noise?

Replace the e-Call relay box (Refer to ).

Replace the door speaker (passenger’s side).

STEP 9. Resistance measurement at between the e-Call control unit connectors (SPO+, SPO- terminals)

(1)Disconnect the e-Call control unit connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the resistance between the e-Call control unit connector terminal SPO+ and SPO-.
OK: 0.9 Ω - 120 Ω
(3)Check the resistance between the e-Call control unit connector terminal SPO+ and body earth.
OK: No continuity

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.

Go to Step 10.

STEP 10. Resistance measurement at between the e-Call relay box and the e-Call control unit connectors (SPO+, SPO-, ESI+ or ESI- terminals)

(1)Disconnect the e-Call control unit and e-Call relay box connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector terminal ESI+ and body earth.
OK: No continuity
(3)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector terminal ESI+ and e-Call control unit connector terminal SPO+.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
(4)Check the resistance between the e-Call relay box connector terminal ESI- and e-Call control unit connector terminal SPO-.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the e-Call relay box (Refer to ).

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 11. Retest the system

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction).
