REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS

<<A>> CAMSHAFT SPROCKET REMOVAL

1.
caution Always turn the crankshaft in the forward direction (clockwise).
Turn the crankshaft in the forward direction (clockwise) to align the timing mark so that No.1 cylinder is at the compression TDC (Top Dead Centre) position.

2.Tie the camshaft sprocket and timing belt with a cord so that the position of the camshaft sprocket will not move with respect to the timing belt.

3.Insert special tool adjusting bolt (MD998738) into the rubber plug hole in the timing belt rear cover and turn it gently. Stop turning the special tool (MD998738) when it can no longer be turned gently.
note This will make the end of the special tool (MD998738) touch the timing belt tensioner arm, so the timing belt auto-tensioner will stop and the timing belt tension will not vary.

4.Use the following special tools to stop the camshaft sprocket from turning.

  • Front hub and flange yoke holder (MB990767)
  • Crankshaft pulley holder pin (MD998719)
5.
caution Do not turn the crankshaft after the camshaft sprocket is removed.
Remove the camshaft sprocket with the timing belt attached.

<<B>> CAMSHAFT OIL SEAL REMOVAL

1.
caution Be careful not to damage the camshaft and the cylinder head.
Make a notch in the camshaft oil seal lip section with a knife, etc.
2.Cover the end of a (-) driver with a shop towel and insert into the notched section of the camshaft oil seal, and pry out the camshaft oil seal to remove it.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS

>>A<< CAMSHAFT OIL SEAL INSTALLATION

1.Apply engine oil to the camshaft oil seal lip.
2.Use special tool camshaft oil seal installer (MD998713) to press-fit the camshaft oil seal.

>>B<< CAMSHAFT SPROCKET INSTALLATION

1.Use the following special tools to stop the camshaft sprocket from turning in the same way as was done during removal.

  • Front hub and flange yoke holder (MB990767)
  • Crankshaft pulley holder pin (MD998719)
2.Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 88 ± 10 N·m
3.Remove special tool adjusting bolt (MD998738) from the rubber plug hole.
4.Remove the cord which binds the camshaft sprocket and timing belt.

>>C<< CAM POSITION SENSING CYLINDER INSTALLATION

1.
caution Always turn the crankshaft in the forward direction (clockwise).
Turn the crankshaft in the forward direction (clockwise) to align the timing mark so that No.1 cylinder is at the compression TDC (Top Dead Centre) position.

2.Install the cam position sensing cylinder to the camshaft sprocket in the direction shown.
