Inspection Procedure 1: Engine does not start


COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


If the engine does not start when the selector lever is in P or N position, the cause is probably a malfunction of engine system, inhibitor switch system, transmission control cable.

PROBABLE CAUSES



DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Engine system check
Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting <4D5>.
Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting <4N1>.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the engine system.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list

  • Refer to Data List Reference Table .

    1. Item 23: Inhibitor switch P
    2. Item 24: Inhibitor switch R
    3. Item 25: Inhibitor switch N
    4. Item 26: Inhibitor switch D

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Inhibitor switch continuity check
Refer to .

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the inhibitor switch.

STEP 4. Check of inhibitor switch and transmission control cable
Check the installation status of inhibitor switch and transmission control cable.

Q. Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Adjust the inhibitor switch and the transmission control cable. (Refer to .)
