Code No.P0828: Shift switch (up switch/down switch) system



PROBABLE CAUSES

OPERATION


The shift switch detects the up shift/down shift which the driver has selected, and sends the information to the A/T-ECU.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


While the engine is running, when the select switch is other than the sport mode, if the UP/DOWN signal from shift switch is detected continuously for 10 seconds (1 drive cycle), code No. P0828 is set.

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list



  • Item 19: Upshift switch
  • Item 20: Downshift switch
Check the above data list (Refer to data list reference table ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
NO "NG" for item 28 : Go to Step 2.
NO "NG" for item 29 : Go to Step 5.

STEP 2. Check the shift switch (up switch, down switch).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 3. Measure the voltage at A/T-ECU connector


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal UPSW line and earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Selector lever position: Upshift and hold the selector lever.
OK: System voltage
(4)Selector lever position: Other than above.
OK: 1 V or less

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check for short circuit in UPSW line between shift switch assembly connector and A/T-ECU connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Check the shift switch (up switch, down switch).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 6. Measure the voltage at A/T-ECU connector.


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal DWSW line and earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Selector lever position: Downshift and hold the selector lever.
OK: System voltage
(4)Selector lever position: Other than above.
OK: 1 V or less

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Check for short circuit in DWSW line between shift switch assembly connector and A/T-ECU connector.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.


Check again if the diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is diagnosis code No.P0828 set?

Replace the A/T-ECU.
