DISASSEMBLY

1.Remove the 20 bolts. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 14.5 mm

2. caution Be careful not to damage the fitting surface of the transmission case and the oil pan sub-assembly. Be careful not to deform the oil pan sub-assembly. Using a plastic hammer, tap the oil pan sub-assembly to remove it. 3.Remove the oil pan gasket.

Remove the 4 oil cleaner magnets from the oil pan sub-assembly. note Examine the chips and particles in the oil pan sub-assembly and on the oil cleaner magnet to determine what type of wear has occurred in the transmission. Steel (magnetic) = bearing, gear and plate wear. Brass (non-magnetic) = bushing wear.

1.Remove the 4 bolts to remove the oil strainer assembly from the valve body assembly. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 12 mm 2.Remove the O-ring from the oil strainer assembly. SIZE: O-ring Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) 31.00 2.72

1.Disconnect the 7 solenoid assembly connectors from the solenoid assembly. 2.Disconnect the harness from the valve body wire harness clamp.

3.Remove the 2 bolts and 2 temperature sensor clamps and then pull out the temperature sensor from the valve body assembly. SIZE: Bolt A: M6 x 1.0 x 12 mm B: M6 x 1.0 x 36 mm

4.Remove the bolt from the transmission case. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 16 mm 5.Remove the harness from the transmission case. 6.Remove the O-ring from the harness. SIZE: O-ring Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) 21.80 2.40

Remove the flange bolt to remove the manual detente spring and the manual detente spring cover from the valve body assembly. SIZE: Flange bolt M6 x 1.0 x 14 mm

1.Remove the 19 bolts from the transmission case as shown in the illustration. SIZE: Bolt A: M6 x 1.0 x 25 mm B: M6 x 1.0 x 36 mm 2. caution Be careful not to drop the valve body assembly. Disconnect the manual valve link and remove the valve body assembly.

Remove the check valve sub-assembly and the spring from the transmission case as shown in the illustration. SIZE: Spring Free (mm) Outer (mm) 38.55 4.861

Remove the 3 gaskets and the 3 gaskets from the transmission case as shown in the illustration.

1. caution Take care as the accumulator piston (Direct clutch, B3) may eject. Apply compressed air into the oil passage as shown in the illustration and remove the 2 accumulator pistons and the 2 accumulator springs from the transmission case. SIZE: Accumulator springs Piston Free (mm) Outer (mm) Colour Direct clutch 62.0 15.9 White B3 70.5 19.7 Purple

2. caution Be careful not to damage the accumulator piston. Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 snap rings from the 2 accumulator pistons. 3.Remove the 2 springs from the 2 accumulator pistons. SIZE: Spring Piston Free (mm) Outer (mm) Colour direct clutch 14.16 11.3 - B3 24.77 16.3 Purple

4. caution Be careful not to damage the accumulator piston. Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 O-rings from the 2 accumulator pistons. SIZE: O-ring Piston Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) Direct clutch 20.00 2.62 28.73 2.62 B3 23.55 2.62 34.29 2.62

1. caution Take care as the accumulator piston (Reverse clutch) may eject. Apply compressed air into the oil passage as shown in the illustration and remove the accumulator piston and the 2 accumulator springs from the transmission case. 2. caution Be careful not to damage the accumulator piston. Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 O-rings from the accumulator piston. SIZE: O-ring Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) 26.75 2.62 34.29 2.62

Remove the accumulator valve and the 2 springs from the transmission case. SIZE: Spring Piston Free (mm) Outer (mm) Colour Accumulator 48.76 16.6 Light green 30.40 11.4 Pink

Remove the 3 bolts to remove the parking lock pawl bracket. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 14 mm

Disconnect the parking lock rod sub-assembly from the manual valve lever sub-assembly.

1. caution Be careful not to apply too much force to the torsion spring. Pull out the parking lock pawl shaft and the torsion spring. 2.Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the parking lock pawl shaft. 3.Remove the parking lock pawl.

1. caution Be careful not to damage the manual valve lever sub-assembly. Using a hammer and a screwdriver, cut off the spacer to remove it.

2.Using a hammer and a pin punch, drive out the spring pin.

3.Pull the manual valve lever shaft out through the transmission case, and remove the manual valve lever sub-assembly.

Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 oil seals.

Using the special tool Drag link bushing remove and installer B (MB990842) and a hammer, install the 2 new oil seals.

1.Install the new spacer to the manual valve lever sub-assembly. 2.Install the manual valve lever shaft to the transmission assembly through the manual valve lever sub-assembly.

3.Using a hammer, drive in the new spring pin.

4.Align the manual valve lever shaft indentation with the spacer hole, and stake them together with the punch. 5.Make sure that the manual valve lever shaft rotates smoothly.

1.Install the parking lock pawl. 2.Install the snap ring to the parking lock pawl shaft. 3. caution Be careful not to apply too much force to the torsion spring. Install the parking lock pawl shaft and the torsion spring.

Connect the parking lock rod sub-assembly to the manual valve lever sub-assembly.

1.Install the parking lock pawl bracket with the 3 bolts. 2.Tighten the parking lock pawl bracket mounting bolts to the specified torque 7.4 ± 1.4 N·m. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 14 mm

3.Shift the manual valve lever sub-assembly to the P position, and confirm the RR planetary gear assembly is correctly locked up by the parking lock pawl.

Install the accumulator valve and the spring to the transmission case as shown in the illustration. SIZE: Spring Piston Free (mm) Outer (mm) Colour Accumulator 48.76 16.6 Light green 30.40 11.4 Pink

1. caution Be careful not to damage the O-rings and accumulator piston. Coat the 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the accumulator piston. SIZE: O-ring Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) 26.75 2.62 34.29 2.62

2.Install the accumulator piston and the 2 accumulator springs to the transmission case as shown in the illustration. SIZE: Accumulator springs Piston Free (mm) Outer (mm) Colour Reverse clutch 44.0 14.0 Yellow 73.35 19.9 Red

3.Install the 2 accumulator pistons and the 2 accumulator springs to the transmission case as shown in the illustration. SIZE: Accumulator springs Piston Free (mm) Outer (mm) Colour Direct clutch 62.0 15.9 White B3 70.5 19.7 Purple

Coat the 3 new gaskets and the 3 new gaskets with ATF, and install them to the transmission case as shown in the illustration.

Install the check valve sub-assembly and the spring to the transmission case as shown in the illustration. SIZE: Spring Free (mm) Outer (mm) 38.55 4.861

1.Install the parking lock rod sub-assembly to the manual valve lever sub-assembly as shown in the illustration. 2. caution When installing, be sure to put the harness in the concave portion of the separator plate in the valve body assembly as shown in the illustration. Do not pinch the harness between the separator plate and the valve body assembly. Install the valve body assembly. 3.Temporarily install the valve body assembly with the 19 bolts. SIZE: Bolt A: M6 x 1.0 x 25 mm B: M6 x 1.0 x 36 mm note Aligning the bolt holes, temporarily tighten the 19 bolts by hand.

4.Tighten the valve body assembly mounting bolts to the specified torque 11 ± 1 N·m. note Be sure to tighten the inner bolts first.

1.Install the manual detent spring sub-assembly and the manual detent spring cover with the flange bolt to the valve body assembly. 2.Tighten the manual detent spring sub-assembly and the manual detent spring cover mounting flange bolt to the specified torque 10 ± 2 N·m. SIZE: Flange bolt M6 x 1.0 x 14 mm

1.Install a new O-ring to the harness. SIZE: O-ring Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) 21.80 2.40 2.Install the harness to the transmission case with the bolt. 3.Tighten the harness mounting bolt to the specified torque 5.4 ± 1.5 N·m. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 16 mm

4.Install the temperature sensor and the temperature sensor clamp. 5.Tighten the temperature sensor clamp mounting bolt to the specified torque. A: 10 ± 2 N·m SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 12 mm B: 11 ± 1 N·m SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 36 mm

6.Connect the harness to the valve body wire harness clamp. 7.Connect the 7 solenoid assembly connectors to the solenoid assembly.

1.Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it to the oil strainer assembly. SIZE: O-ring Inner diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) 31.00 2.72 2.Install the oil strainer assembly to the valve body assembly with the 4 bolts. 3.Tighten the oil strainer assembly mounting bolts to the specified torque 10 ± 2 N·m. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 12 mm

Install the 4 oil cleaner magnets to the oil pan assembly. note Clean the oil cleaner magnet before install it.

1. caution Be careful not to damage the fitting surfaces of the transmission case and the oil pan assembly. Be careful not to deform the oil pan assembly. Install a new oil pan gasket and the oil pan assembly to the transmission case. 2. caution Be reminded that bolts might be damaged if tightened too much since the oil pan gasket is cork-made and there is little tightening sense. Install the 20 bolts to the transmission case. 3.Tighten the oil pan assembly mounting bolts to the specified torque 7.0 ± 0.9 N·m. SIZE: Bolt M6 x 1.0 x 14.5 mm
