DISASSEMBLY SERVICE POINTS

<<A>> ROTOR REMOVAL

Use special tool bearing remover (MB990560) to pull out the rotor from the hub.

<<B>> HUB REMOVAL

caution When the hub has been removed, always replace the wheel bearing with a new part because wheel bearing frictional surface will be damaged when removing the hub.

Use special tool bearing remover (MD998917) and iron piece to press out the hub as shown in the illustration.

<<C>> WHEEL BEARING REMOVAL

1.Crush the bearing cage by using chisel etc., and remove roller bearings from the wheel bearing inner race (outside).
2.Remove the oil seal.

3.
caution When removing the inner race (outside) from the hub, be careful not to damage the hub.
Fix the hub and shave off the wheel bearing inner race (outside).

4.Cut in with a chisel the place where the wheel bearing inner race (outside) has been shaven and remove the wheel bearing inner race (outside)

5.Install the inner race (outside) that was removed from the hub to the wheel bearing, and then use the following special tools to remove the wheel bearing.

  • Installer bar (MB990938)
  • Installer adapter (MB990931)

REASSEMBLY SERVICE POINTS

>>A<< WHEEL BEARING INSTALLATION

1.Fill the wheel bearing with multipurpose grease.
2.Apply a thin coating of multipurpose grease to the knuckle and bearing contact surfaces.

3.
caution Press the outer race when pressing-in the wheel bearing. Otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged.
Press-in the bearing by using the following special tools.

  • Installer bar (MB990938)
  • Base (MB991576)

>>B<< HUB ROTARY SLIDING RESISTANCE CHECK

1.Use a spring balance to measure the hub rotary sliding resistance (hub rotation starting torque) as shown in the illustration.
Limit: 77 N (4.4 N·m)
2.If the rotary sliding resistance is not within the standard value, replace the bearing.

>>C<< WHEEL BEARING AXIAL PLAY CHECK

1.Measure to determine whether the wheel bearing axial play is within the limit or not.
Limit: 0 mm
2.If the play is not within the limit range, replace the bearing and re-install.
