INSPECTION PROCEDURE 1: Power windows do not work at all.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the power windows do not work at all, the power window relay or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the power supply system.

With the ignition switch in the LOCK position, check if the following function operates normally:

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.

Refer to GROUP 54A - Malfunction of ETACS-ECU Power Supply Circuit .

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code

Check that ETACS-ECU sets a diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Refer to GROUP 54A - Diagnosis Code Chart .

Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list

Check the ETACS-ECU service item related to the power window.

Item No.
Item name
Normal condition
30
Ignition switch(IG1)
ON
OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

Refer to GROUP 54A - Inspection Procedure 2: The ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received .

STEP 4. Check the power window relay.

Refer to check the power window relay .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Replace the power window relay.

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at the power window relay connector (power supply line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Check the voltage between the power window relay connector (power supply line) and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in power supply line between power window relay connector and fusible link.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Voltage measurement at the power window relay connector (B. PW line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Check the voltage between the power window relay connector (B. PW line) and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.

Go to Step 8.

STEP 8. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in B. PW line between ETACS-ECU connector and power window relay connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 9. Resistance measurement at the power window relay connector (earth line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Continuity between power window relay connector (earth line) and body earth
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.

Go to Step 10.

STEP 10. Check of open circuit in earth line between power window relay connector and body earth.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 11. Voltage measurement at the intermediate connector (power supply line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Check the voltage between the intermediate connector (power supply line) and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES <Vehicles with driver’s side auto down mechanism> : Go to Step 13.

YES <Vehicles without driver’s side auto down mechanism> : Go to Step 15.

Go to Step 12.

STEP 12. Check of short to power supply, short to earth, and open circuit in power supply line between power window relay connector and intermediate connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the harness wire.

STEP 13. Resistance measurement at the power window main switch connector (E line).

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
