REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION



Pre-removal Operation
  • Under Skid Plate and Engine Room Under Cover (Front) Removal (Refer to GROUP 51 - Under Cover ).
  • Engine Oil Draining (Refer to GROUP 12 - On-vehicle Service, Engine Oil Replacement ).
  • Starter Assembly Removal (Refer to GROUP 16 - Starting System, Starter Motor Assembly ).
  • Front Catalytic Converter and Exhaust Support Bracket Removal (Refer to GROUP 15 - Exhaust Pipe, Main Muffler and Catalytic Converter ).

Post-installation Operation
  • Starter Assembly Installation (Refer to GROUP 16 - Starting System, Starter Motor Assembly ).
  • Front Catalytic Converter and Exhaust Support Bracket Installation (Refer to GROUP 15 - Exhaust Pipe, Main Muffler and Catalytic Converter ).
  • Engine Oil Refilling (Refer to GROUP 12 - On-vehicle Service, Engine Oil Replacement ).
  • Under Skid Plate and Engine Room Under Cover (Front) Installation (Refer to GROUP 51 - Under Cover ).





Removal steps

REMOVAL SERVICE POINT



<<A>> ENGINE OIL PAN REMOVAL


1.Remove the engine oil pan mounting bolts.

2.
caution Do not use the special tool oil pan FIPG cutter (MD998727). It will damage the engine oil pan (aluminium made).
Screw the bolts (M10 × 1.25) into the bolt holes of engine oil pan shown in the figure, then remove the engine oil pan.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINT



>>A<< ENGINE OIL PAN INSTALLATION


1.Remove sealant from the engine oil pan and cylinder block surfaces.
2.Degrease the sealant-coated surface and the engine oil pan mating surface of the cylinder block.

3.Apply a bead of the sealant to the cylinder block mating surface of the engine oil pan as shown.
Specified sealant: MITSUBISHI GENUINE PART MD970389 or equivalent
note Install the engine oil pan within 15 minutes after applying sealant.
4.Install the engine oil pan to the cylinder block.

caution
  • The bolt holes for bolts 13 and 14 in the illustration are cut away on the transmission side. Be careful not to insert these bolts at an angle.
  • Then wait at least one hour. Never start the engine or let oil or coolant touch the sealant surface during that time.
Tighten the engine oil pan mounting bolts to the specified torque in order of the numbers shown in the illustration.
Tightening torque: 8.5 ± 3.5 N·m
6.Tighten the engine oil pan mounting bolts of the transmission connection side to the specified torque
Tightening torque: 36 ± 5 N·m
