INSPECTION PROCEDURE 1: When the ignition switch is turned ON position (engine stopped), the brake warning lamp does not illuminate.

OPERATION

COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

The cause is probably an open circuit at the brake warning light circuit, or malfunction of the ASTC-ECU.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS

STEP 1. Check whether the brake warning light illuminates.

Q. Does the brake warning light illuminate at the condition that the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position and the engine is stopped.

Go to Step 2.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 2. Check the brake warning light circuit at ASTC-ECU connector D-223.

(1)Disconnect ASTC-ECU connector D-223.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Check whether the brake warning light is illuminated.
OK: illuminate

Q. Does the brake warning light illuminate?

Replace the ASTC-ECU (Refer to GROUP 35C, ASTC-ECU ). Then go to Step 9.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check combination meter connector D-02 and ASTC-ECU connector D-223 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Repair the faulty connector or terminal. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 4. Check intermediate connector D-230 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair it. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 5. Check the harness wires between combination meter connector D-02 (terminal 45) and ASTC-ECU connector D-223 (terminal 81).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the combination meter (Refer to GROUP 54A, Combination Meter Assembly ). Then go to Step 11.
Repair it. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 6. Check the combination meter power supply circuit at combination meter harness connector D-02.

(1)Disconnect combination meter connector D-02, and measure at the harness connector (component side).
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between terminal 42 and body earth.
OK: Approx. 12 volts (battery positive voltage)

Q. Is battery positive voltage (approx. 12 volts) present?

Replace the combination meter (Refer to GROUP 54A, Combination Meter Assembly ). Then go to Step 11.
Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Check combination meter connector D-02 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the faulty connector or terminal. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 8. Check intermediate connector D-405 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair it. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 9. Check the harness wires between junction block connector D-403 (terminal 6) and combination meter connector D-02 (terminal 42).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.
Repair it. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 10. Check the harness wires between combination meter connector D-02 (terminal 41, 52) and body earth.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.
Repair it. Then go to Step 11.

STEP 11. Retest the system.

Q. Does the brake warning light illuminate for three seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position with engine stopped?

The procedure is complete.
Start over at Step 1.
