INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2: After starting the engine, the brake warning lamp
remains ON.
caution |
First of all, check the parking brake switch circuit
and the brake fluid level switch circuit.
note |
This diagnosis procedure is limited to cases where
communication with the M.U.T.-III is possible (ASTC-ECU power supply is
normal) and no Diagnosis code sets.
OPERATION
When the power transistor in the ASTC-ECU is off or the
circuit between the ASTC-ECU and the combination meter is open, the power
transistor in the combination meter will turn on to illuminate the brake
warning light.
COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The cause is probably the ASTC-ECU
malfunction or open circuit at the ASTC-ECU’s brake warning light drive
circuit.
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Damaged wiring harness or connector
- Malfunction of the ASTC-ECU
- Malfunction of the combination meter
STEP 1. Check combination meter connector D-02 and ASTC-ECU connector
D-223 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back
in the connector.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the faulty connector or
terminal. Then go to Step 5.
STEP 2. Check the brake warning light drive circuit at ASTC-ECU harness
connector D-223.
(1)Disconnect ASTC-ECU connector D-223 and check at the
harness connector (component side).
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Connect terminal 81 to body earth.
Q.
Does the brake warning light turn off?
Replace the ASTC-ECU (Refer to
GROUP 35C, ASTC-ECU ). Then go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check intermediate connector D-230 for loose, corroded or
damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the
connector.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair or replace it. Then go to
Step 5.
STEP 4. Check the harness wires between combination meter connector
D-02 (terminal 45) and ASTC-ECU connector D-223 (terminal
81).
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Replace the combination meter
(Refer to GROUP 54A, Combination Meter Assembly ). Then go to Step 5.
Repair or replace it. Then go to
Step 5.
STEP 5. Retest the system.
Q.
Does the brake warning light turn on for three seconds and then turn off
on start-up?
The
procedure is complete.
Start over at Step 1.
