Inspection Procedure 1: The rear wiper does not operate at all.

caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the rear wiper does not work normally, the input signal circuits to the components below, the rear wiper motor or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

  • Ignition switch (ACC)
  • Rear wiper switch

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of the rear wiper motor
  • Malfunction of the column switch
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Use the M.U.T.-III to confirm a diagnosis code.

Check that the ETACS-ECU sets a diagnosis code.

Q. Is diagnosis code set?

Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS, Diagnosis code chart .
Go to Step 2.

Step 2. Pulse check

Check the input signals below which are related to the rear wiper.
System switch
Check condition
Ignition switch (ACC)
When turned from the LOCK (OFF) position to the ACC position
Column switch (rear wiper switch)
When the switch is turned from off to on
OK: The M.U.T.-III sounds or the voltmeter needle fluctuates.

Q. Are the check result normal?

All the signals are received normally. : Go to Step 3.
The ignition switch (ACC) signal is not received. : Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS, Inspection procedure C-1 "The ignition switch (ACC) signal is not received ."
The column switch (rear wiper switch) signal is not received. : Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS, Inspection procedure C-7 "The column switch (windshield wiper washer and rear wiper washer switch) signal is not received ."

Step 3. Connector check: G-03 rear wiper motor connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector.

Step 4. Check the rear wiper motor.

Refer to .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Replace the rear wiper motor.

Step 5. Resistance measurement at the G-03 rear wiper motor connector.

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Resistance between G-03 rear wiper motor connector terminal No.3 and body earth
OK: Continuity (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

Step 6. Check the wiring harness between G-03 rear wiper motor connector terminal No.3 and body earth.

  • Check the earth line for open or short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the wiring harness.

Step 7. Connector check: D-419 ETACS-ECU connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector.

Step 8. Check the wiring harness between D-419 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.16 and G-03 rear wiper motor connector terminal No.1.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check the intermediate connector E-105 and junction block connectors D-409<LHD> or D-422<RHD>, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the output line.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

Step 9. Retest the system.

Check that the rear wiper works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
