REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION <4G6>


Pre-removal Operation
  • Engine Room Under Cover Removal (Refer to GROUP 51 - Under Cover ) <2WD>.
  • Under Skid Plate and Engine Room Under Cover Removal (Refer to GROUP 51 - Under Cover ) <4WD>.
  • Air Cleaner Intake Duct Removal (Refer to GROUP 15 - Air Cleaner <4G6> ).
  • Radiator Shroud Assembly Removal (Refer to ).

 Post-installation Operation
  • Drive Belt Tension Check and Adjustment (Refer to GROUP 11A - On-vehicle Service, Drive Belt Tension Check ).
  • Radiator Shroud Assembly Installation (Refer to ).
  • Air Cleaner Intake Duct Installation (Refer to GROUP 15 - Air Cleaner <4G6> ).

REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS

<<A>> A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT REMOVAL

1.
caution
  • To reuse the drive belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction on the back of the drive belt using chalk to install the same direction.
  • Do not turn the crankshaft anti-clockwise.
  • Be careful not to get your fingers caught.
Set special tool drive belt remover (MB992728) between the A/C compressor drive belt and the crankshaft pulley as shown.
note Insert the special tool between the belt and the pulley.

2.Use a tool to rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the special tool reaches the bottom of the pulley.

3.The arrow on the special tool should point in direction of travel. Then prise off the A/C compressor drive belt.
4.Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise further to remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
5.Check the crankshaft pulley groove for dust or dirt. If it is contaminated, use an air blower to clean.

<<B>> POWER STEERING BELT REMOVAL
1.Before removing the power steering belt, slightly loosen the mounting nuts of cooling fan clutch and water pump pulley.

2.
caution To reuse the power steering belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction (clockwise) on the back of the power steering belt using chalk, etc.
Loosen the mounting bolts shown in the figure to remove the power steering belt.

<<C>> ALTERNATOR AND OTHERS BELT REMOVAL

1.Loosen the nut for alternator pivot bolt and locking bolt.
2.
caution To reuse the alternator and others belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction (clockwise) on the back of the alternator and others belt using chalk, etc.
Rotate the alternator adjusting bolt to the anti-clockwise direction, and remove the alternator and others belt.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINT

>>A<< COOLING FAN AND COOLING FAN CLUTCH ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION
Temporarily tighten the mounting nuts of the cooling fan clutch and water pump pulley, and install the power steering belt. Then, tighten the mounting nuts to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 11 ± 1 N·m

>>B<< A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION
1.
caution
  • To reuse the drive belt, install it by aligning the arrow mark on the backside of belt marked at the removal with the rotating direction.
  • Do not turn the crankshaft anti-clockwise.
Engage the A/C compressor drive belt with the A/C compressor pulley.

2.Put special tool drive belt installer (MB992905) on the crankshaft pulley, and then hook the A/C compressor drive belt onto the projection of the special tool.

3.Rotate the special tool to the direction shown by hand to tension the A/C compressor drive belt.


4.Check that the A/C compressor drive belt is engaged with the grooves in the crankshaft and the A/C compressor pulleys correctly.

5.
caution Be careful not to get your fingers caught.
Use a tool to rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. While doing this, be careful that the A/C compressor drive belt is not twisted or the belt ribs do not face outwards.
Note that the belt is engaged with grooves in the pulley correctly.
6.On completion, remove the special tool.
