1.Remove the 10 bolts from
the transmission case.

Be careful not to drop the oil
pump assembly from the transmission
case.

Using the special tool Oil pump puller (MD998212),
remove the oil pump assembly.
|
|
3.Remove the O-ring from the
oil pump assembly.

4.Remove the thrust needle roller
bearing and the thrust bearing race No. 1 from the oil pump
assembly.

| caution |
- Be careful not to drop the forward
clutch assembly & direct clutch
assembly.
- Be careful not to drop the one-way
clutch No. 3.
|
Remove the forward clutch assembly & direct
clutch assembly with the one-way clutch No. 3.
|
|
2.Remove the thrust bearing
race and the thrust needle roller bearing from the forward
clutch assembly & direct clutch assembly.
|
|
3.Remove the clutch hub
thrust washer, one-way clutch No. 2 and the clutch drum
thrust washer No. 2 from the forward clutch assembly &
direct clutch assembly.
|
|
1.Using a screwdriver,
remove the snap ring from the transmission case.
|
|
2.Remove the flange, 4
discs, 4 plates and cushion plate.

Check the number of disc.

|
1.Remove the hole snap ring
from the transmission case.
|
|
2.Remove the brake piston
return spring sub-assembly No. 3 & second brake piston
& second brake cylinder with the one-way clutch No. 1,
planetary carrier thrust washer No. 1 and the one-way clutch
inner sub-assembly.
|
|
3.Remove the one-way clutch
inner race sub-assembly and the planetary carrier thrust
washer No. 1
4.Remove the one-way clutch No. 1
from the brake piston return spring sub-assembly No. 3
& second brake piston & second brake
cylinder.
|
|
Remove the FR planetary gear
assembly and the planetary carrier thrust washer No.
2.
|
|
1.Remove the FR planetary
ring gear & FR planetary gear flange & centre
planetary ring gear.
2.Remove the thrust bearing
race No. 3 and the thrust needle roller bearing from the FR
planetary ring gear & FR planetary ring gear flange
& centre planetary ring gear.

|
1.Remove the centre
planetary gear assembly and planetary sun
gear.
2.Remove the thrust needle roller bearing
and the thrust bearing race No. 4 from the centre planetary
gear assembly.

|
1.Install the thrust bearing
race No. 4 and the thrust needle roller bearing to the
centre planetary gear assembly.
2.Install the
centre planetary gear assembly & planetary sun
gear.

|
1.Apply ATF to the thrust
bearing race No. 3 and the thrust needle roller bearing and
install them to the FR planetary gear.
2.Install
the FR planetary ring gear & FR planetary ring gear
flange & centre planetary ring gear.

|
1.Apply ATF to the planetary
carrier thrust washer No. 2 and install it to the FR
planetary gear assembly.
2.Install the FR
planetary gear assembly.
|
|
1.Apply ATF to the planetary
carrier thrust washer No. 1 and install it to the one-way
clutch inner race sub-assembly.
2.Install the
one-way clutch No. 1 to the one-way clutch inner race
sub-assembly.
3.Install the one-way clutch inner
race sub-assembly.

Align the hole of the second
brake piston return spring sub-assembly, No. 3
& second brake piston & second brake
cylinder with the position shown in the
illustration.
|
Install the second brake piston return spring
sub-assembly, No. 3 & second brake piston &
second brake cylinder to the transmission case as shown in
the illustration.
|

| caution |
If the hole snap ring is not
installed in the correct direction, the
automatic transmission may not work
properly.
|
Check that the hole snap ring is installed in the
correct direction.
|
|

| caution |
Align the opening of the hole
snap ring with the position shown in the
illustration.
|
Install the hole snap ring in the groove.
|
|

Check the number and order of
the cushion plate, the plates, the discs and the
flange.
|
Install the cushion plate and plates, the discs and
the flange to the transmission case as shown in the
illustration.

Install the cushion plate and
plates, discs and flange following the order
shown in the illustration.

| caution |
Align the opening of the hole
snap ring with the position shown in the
illustration.
|
Install the hole snap ring in the groove.
|
|
1.Apply ATF to the clutch
drum thrust washer No. 2 & clutch hub thrust washer,
and install it to the forward clutch assembly & direct
clutch assembly.
2.Install the one-way clutch No.
2.
3.Apply ATF to the clutch drum thrust washer
No. 2 & clutch hub thrust washer and install it to the
one-way clutch No. 2.

4.Apply ATF to the thrust
bearing race and the thrust needle roller bearing and
install them to the forward clutch assembly & direct
clutch assembly.
|
|
5.
| caution |
- Be careful not to drop the forward
clutch assembly & direct clutch
assembly.
- Be careful not to drop the one-way
clutch No. 2.
|
Install the forward clutch assembly & direct
clutch assembly.
|
|
1.Coat the new O-ring with
ATF, and install it to the oil pump assembly.

bearing and the thrust bearing race No. 1 and install them
to the oil pump assembly.

Install the oil pump assembly.
|
|
4.Apply sealant to the 10
bolts and install them to the oil pump
assembly.
Specified sealant:
Mitsubishi Part
No. MS990188 or equivalent
5.Tighten the
oil pump assembly mounting bolts to the specified torque 21
± 3 N·m.
